A message from Ben
“I feel thrilled and daunted in equal measure to be stepping into Richard Cooke’s shoes after his 40-year tenure of this wonderful choir. This is a unique choir as it involves so many singers from the local community and also from the international community of university students and staff.
Because of the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic we won’t be able to rehearse one of the big works so I will provide a mixture of music to learn on the day together with some of the better-known classical music tunes from the great works. Looking forward to meeting any new choir members from the community on Zoom on the 8th October at 7pm.”
To help new members find their feet, from the 15th October Ben will hold a pre-rehearsal (6.15 -6.45pm) prior to the main rehearsal at 7pm for students and any choir members who would like to join in. This will be at a slower pace and give new people the opportunity to decide what voice part they might be and to feel their way in what might be a new challenge.
Autumn 2020 Programme
We will be rehearsing a range of classical music ranging from traditional to contemporary. We will be limited in our ability to rehearse the big works so there will be a mixture of music to learn on the day plus some extracts from the classics. To start the term we are working on Christus Natus Est by the contemporary composer Cecilia McDowall and Grant Us Thy Peace by Felix Mendelssohn.
