The University of Essex Choir has developed a reputation as one of the finest large ensembles in East Anglia. We sing with top soloists and orchestras in world famous venues such as Snape Maltings Concert Hall. New members are very welcome – you don’t need to be a member of staff or student at the University. Our singers are from all walks of life; musical novices to experienced singers, some still at school, others working or retired.
Like other choirs the University of Essex Choir has been hit by the impact of COVID-19 restrictions. Although at the moment we can’t meet together to rehearse we are going online via Zoom. If you are thinking about getting back to singing or would like to try out a choir, then why not join us for our online rehearsals and sing in the comfort of your own home?
If you are new to the choir please register your interest by emailing email@example.com
How do rehearsals work on Zoom? We will send you a link to the online rehearsal along with a PDF attachment for the music we will be singing. Ben, our Musical Director will lead the rehearsal and will not be able to hear any individual voices during the Zoom rehearsal.
We will be rehearsing a range of classical music ranging from traditional to contemporary. We will be limited in our ability to rehearse the big works so there will be a mixture of music to learn on the day plus some extracts from the classics. To start the term we are working on Christus Natus Est by the contemporary composer Cecilia McDowall and Grant Us Thy Peace by Felix Mendelssohn.
We also hope it may be possible at some point in the future to do some small group work in a safe space observing social distancing.
Be exceptional. Come and join us!
